Trade Marks are registered for the goods and services for which you do business. You will need to choose which classes best represent your business activities. You should also think about what you may be using your name for in the next few years, as this may be more than you currently use the name for today. It is generally more cost effective to register more classes at the same time, as marks can not be added to in the future.

There are currently 45 trade mark classes, 34 of which relate to physical goods, the others of which relate to services.

Class 2 : Paints, varnishes and lacquers
Class 3 : Cosmetics, perfumes, creams, toiletries, bleaching preparations and other substances for laundry use
Class 4 : Industrial oils and greases
Class 5 : Pharmaceutical and veterinary preparations, medicines
Class 6 : Common metals and their alloys
Class 7 : Machines and machine tools
Class 8 : Hand tools and implements
Class 9 : Computer software, hardware, computer games, CDs, DVDs and MP3 players, electronic publications (downloadable)
Class 10 : Surgical, dental and veterinary apparatus and instruments
Class 11 : Apparatus for lighting, water supply and sanitary purposes
Class 12 : Vehicles
Class 13 : Firearms
Class 14 : Jewellery, precious metals and their alloys not included in other classes
Class 15 : Musical instruments
Class 16 : Books, paper, cardboard and goods made from these materials
Class 17 : Electrical, thermal and acoustic insulating materials and plastics
Class 18 : Leather, leather imitations and travel goods and bags
Class 19 : Non-metallic building materials
Class 20 : Mainly furniture and its parts and plastic goods
Class 21 : Hand-operated utensils and apparatus for household use
Class 22 : Rope and sail manufacture products
Class 23 : Yarns and threads for textile use
Class 24 : Mainly textiles and textile covers for household use
Class 25 : Clothing, footwear and headwear
Class 26 : Dressmakers' articles
Class 27 : Products intended to be added as furnishings
Class 28 : Games and playthings
Class 29 : Foodstuffs of animal origin such as meat, fish and poultry
Class 30 : Foodstuffs of plant origin prepared for consumption such as coffee, tea, cereals and bread.
Class 31 : Land products not prepared for consumption, agricultural, and forestry products
Class 32 : Beer and non-alcoholic beverages
Class 33 : Alcoholic beverages (except beer)
Class 34 : Tobacco and smokers' articles

Class 35 : Advertising and administration, business consultancy, marketing, online retail, recruitment
Class 36 : Financial and monetary services
Class 37 : Building contractors or sub-contractors services, installation and maintenance services
Class 38 : Telecommunications
Class 39 : Transport services; arranging travel
Class 40 : Treatment of materials
Class 41 : Education and entertainment services, shows, sporting events, training
Class 42 : Services- research, design and technology generally
Class 43 : Services for providing food and drink and accommodation
Class 44 : Services for medical care, hygenic and beauty care
