Unlike the US, copyright is not something that is registrable in the UK or the EU. As a result it is often difficult to prove that creative work belong to the author. Our system of depositing the work with a thirs party overcomes many of the inherent shortcomings of the copyright system and has proved very popular with all sorts of creatives from sole authors to large multinationals.
