Since 1st June 2006 there have been 2 ways in which you can obtain trade mark protection in Guernsey.
The first way is to register the mark as a stand alone application on the Island. This is the same as registering your mark in any other jurisdiction and involves a similar process to that of a UK mark - the mark is submitted and, if accepted by the Registrar, then goes on to an opposition period of 3 months before the mark can be formally registered.
The second way is to re-register an existing mark in the Island. Existing marks can be accepted from the UK, the EU and any country on the approved country list. The two marks run in conjunction with one another and the existing mark has to be renewed in order for the Guernsey mark to be eligible for renewal.
Both types of mark are able to be ordered through our site - please see below for the options available. |
